Go Ahead Honey… Take A Chance

9 Jan

I love this quote by Maya Angelou, perhaps because I’m living it. It’s never too late to take a chance on love. Go ahead and do it. After all you’re worth it aren’t you? So, go ahead honey, take a chance. You’ll thank yourself for it later.

I’m Rich

10 Aug

As I ready myself to turn in for the night, I’ve come to an elating conclusion: I’m rich! I already knew I was posh, but on tonight I realize I am rich, I mean reeeeaaaally rich! And I ain’t talkin’ Prince of Zamunda rich.

This evening I searched my wallet. It was empty (not quite, but pretty close). Then, I checked my pockets I found a few coins. I then searched my heart and found you. Then, I realized how rich I really am. I’ve finally realized that Resting In Christ Hands is what keeps me posh and infinitely R.I.C.H..

I am rich in Faith. I am rich in Good Health. I am rich in Love. I am rich in Freedom. I am rich in Peace. I am rich in Happiness. I am rich in Family. I am rich in Friends. I am rich in Heart. I know with unquestionable certainty that being rich in Christ is what affords me all the riches in my life.

May you be as rich as I am. Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass, It’s about learning to dance in the rain. Learn to claim your present moment by fully enjoying the richness of what’s all around you.  It’s been there all along. Have you noticed it?

Note To Self: When the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ captures our hearts and we yield ourselves to Him, we suddenly realize that we are exceedingly rich, and not by accident. Christ is what affords me all the riches in my life and through belief in Him, He will do the same for you.

A Lesson On A Great Society

Trees in the Bible carry a powerful symbolism. David spoke that the righteous in Christ will be like a tree planted by the rivers of water.

Find a person that has planted a tree and you’ve found yourself a gracious and righteous person.

I love this Greek proverb because it is symbolic of the power of one person.

Posh Thoughts: A Review Of The Documentary, “Marley”.

4 Aug

Diehard fans of the late reggae superstar Bob Marley are certain to learn something from the new documentary, Marley, which debuted tonight on VH1.

The poignant film, directed by Kevin Macdonald (The Last King of Scotland) really captured the essence of Bob Marley’s contribution to society, as a musician, a revolutionary and a legend.

Bob Marley’s universal appeal, impact on music history and role as a social and political revolutionary is unparalleled. The life story of the musician, revolutionary, and legend, from his early days to his rise to international super-stardom is brilliantly captured. The film is chock full of never-seen before footage, incredible performances and revelatory interviews with the people that knew him best.

If there were ever a question as to why Bob Marley’s guy music continues to be played everywhere you go in the world, the film eloquently answers it.

Posh Thoughts: From Snoop Dogg to Snoop Lion: Snoop’s Conversion To Rastafarian

4 Aug

Announcing his conversion to Rastafarianism on Monday (July 30), the rapper formerly known as Snoop Dogg unveiled that he has been spiritually reformed and has changed his name to Snoop Lion.

Why the name change? The religious movement doesn’t require converts to change their names. But the faith was born in Jamaica, where calling someone a dog is deeply insulting. But, unlike dogs, lions hold a place of pride in Rasta theology.

As long as this isn’t a publicity stunt, I actually respect this move.  Lets face it, Snoop is already like 40+. Realistically, how long can the context of hiphop/ gansta rap fit him? If only more mcs had this mentality then we could probably bring about a reduction in the population of pants sagging, 40 year old men who are still dreaming of making it big in the rap game. I’m all about positivity and if this guy claims to have had a spiritual awakening or religious experience and become socially responsible then I support this. If he wants to make positive music and reggae; has always been that, then so be it. While no one has to like it but on the strength of positivity at least respect it.

Now, the fact that he is claiming to be Bob Marley reincarnated is another story. As a Christian, I don’t know everything there is to know about Buddhism but Calvin Broadus a.k.a. Snoop was born in 1971 and Bob Marley died in 1981. From this, can we deduce that there were two Bob Marleys during that ten year span? I don’t know about that Snoop Lion. Besides, you’ve got quite a bit of work to do before you hit that level of spirituality. You’ve got a while before you create the type of revolutionary music that Marley contributed to the people of the world. Real Talk. Aside from that, I think he’s on the right track. One has to agree that finding enlightenment or faith is better than the alternative.

My Long Awaited, Most Amazingly Posh, Bucket List

2 Aug

I’ve been promising myself that I would finish this for months now. It’s sort of like my own “Posh Mantra”. So below, in no particular order, are a few of those things I see as bucket list material. I like the idea of always being able to alter your path as changes occur in your life. So this list has not been finalized. For now, you get to see a few of my goals for living a positive, enjoyable life.

Well I have a pretty long bucketlist… Enjoy!

1)  I want to travel the world. I’ve been out of the country a few times. But I mean really, really travel the world. I plan to redecorate my bedroom with a huge map on my wall above my bed, perhaps with a beautiful decal. I’ll put an asterisk on everyplace place I’ve been and a dot on everyplace I plan on visiting, haha, so that means pretty much the whole map will be covered in little “.”s

2)  Be able to fluently speak 4 languages. Yes, of course sign language counts as a language.

3)  Get married to my “soul mate” (yes I believe they exist) and stay happily married until we are both too old to remember our own names.

4)  Ride a gondola in Venice.

5)  Volunteer in an orphanage in Africa. Well… America, then Africa.

6)  Give as much as I have taken in this little world of ours.

7)  Make a difference.

8) Read the entire Bible.

9)  Be able to go to South America (before I remarry) for my mission trip.

10) Be completely healthy!

11) Backpack across Europe.

12) Road trip across the country in a tour bus.

13) Shake hands with a President.

14) Remove my tattoos.

15) Visit the cloud forests of Costa Rica.

16) Hold/or go to a concert similar to Woodstock (I know nothing can compare to the original).

17) Visit every continent. Wait… did I say that already?

18) Start a charity.

19) Visit the Jordan River, where Jesus was baptized. Although, a friend of mine tells me the river is drying up at an alarming rate.

20) Invest in someone’s education (a non family member).

21) Open up a tea/smoothie/herbal/health restaurant/ shop.

22) Have coffee with the CEO of a Fortune 500 company.

23) Meet the Dalai Lama.

24) Own an awesome apartment in Manhattan.

25) Learn the art of photography enough to take aesthetically pleasing photos of all I see.

26) Write a book! Now, is that a surprise?

27) Date a British bloke.

28) Find someone from my past and apologize.

29) Attain another degree.

30) Play a $10,000.00 hand at the blackjack table (only if the profits go to charity or education).

31) Send a message in a bottle and have someone actually receive it and respond back.

32) Leave an inheritance for my children.

I am sure I will constantly be adding to this list…

What are some things you’d put on your bucket list? They can be specific or broad, but how do you want to live your life? How do you see your future playing out? I’d love to know.

Have You Made Your Bucket List Yet?

1 Aug

Since I began blogging some years ago, first with Empire Lifestyle Management, and now with Posh Lifestyle Solutions, I’ve had more than a few people ask me if I have a bucket list. Upon reflecting on this, I’ve come to realized that a true bucket list is about how you want to live your life and the ways you want to leave your mark on the world before you pass on. I’m a firm believer that bucket lists are not set in stone, rather, they’re living, breathing documents that allow us to focus our energies on those things we want to accomplish in our lives.

I didn’t not decide to create a bucket list solely because people were interested in reading it. After all, that would be a little silly, don’t you think? I decided this primarily for me. And honestly, it’s in your best interest to make one too.

Why should you make a bucket list? If thought through properly, a bucket list can set the tone for your adult life, provide a foundation for where you want to go, and give you motivation to achieve those goals. It’s not simply a list of to-dos, but a guide for who you want to become. Is it ever too soon to start a bucket list? I dont think so, I think the earlier you do it, the longer you have to finish it.
